Daniel Fine
An eclectic artist, Daniel Liot Fine is active as a composer/musician, writer, sound designer and visual artist. Although he considers himself largely self–taught, Daniel graduated Cum Laude from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study where he studied photography with Ann Chwatsky, painting with Michael St. John, playwriting with Lenora Champagne, and classical guitar with Lezwek Cesarczyk. He studied music theory and composition with Thomas Addison at the Mannes School of Music. Having to decided to return to school for graduate studies in music composition, he is currently enrolled at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College CUNY in New York City where his teachers have included Hubert Howe Jr., Jeff Nichols and Bruce Saylor.
From 2002–2004, Daniel was the Composer/Sound Designer in Residence for Thèâtre OUF!, a multi–lingual New York–based theater company that devised original works through a collaborative rehearsal process focusing on improvisation and physical action. With this company he co–created the award–winning Bon Appetit!? Other notable performances include a reading of his Conversation Galante by members of the Philharmonia Orchestra of London for a live webcast of works in progress broadcast from Imperial College, London July 6, 2005.
He was a founding member of the improvisatory ensembles The Bubba Noisecore, Soapbitch and naked idiot, as well as indie bands Corde au Couteau and Gospodin Razborka.
In 1997, he was featured in Tear Sheets magazine as an up–and–coming avante garde photographer but the inability to afford darkroom time encouraged him to focus instead on painting. In 1999, while living in Buenos Aires, financial pressures (the inability to afford both food and paint) inspired an interest in painting with food, dirt and other affordable stains.
Daniel's paintings, photographs, drawings, and sculptures have been exhibited throughout the Tri–State area and have been acquired for private collections in the United States and Brazil.
Daniel is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the American Composers Forum (ACF).
